Watford manager Javi Gracia has provided fitness updates on both Abdoulaye Doucoure and Craig Cathcart, ahead of his side’s upcoming clashes with Newcastle United and Tottenham.
Watford’s road ahead
The Hornets are first set to travel to St. James’ Park for an FA Cup meeting with Newcastle this Saturday. And Gracia’s men will then be on the road once again, when they head to Wembley to take on Tottenham next Wednesday.
Watford head into their upcoming run of fixtures on the back of a 5-game unbeaten streak across all competitions. 3 of these results, though, have come in the form of draws.
The Hertfordshire-outfit’s latest outing, meanwhile, saw them struggle to a 0-0 stalemate at home to Burnley.
Amid a disappointing clash at Vicarage Road, one of the main talking points on Saturday surrounded the absence of Abdoulaye Doucoure from Watford’s matchday squad.
French midfielder Doucoure has of course been heavily-linked with a Hornets departure of late.
However, in the aftermath of his side’s draw, Javi Gracia was keen to stress that Watford’s star midfielder’s omission was down to an injury problem:
‘He felt something in the last training session and he wasn’t available. But I’m sure in two or three days he will be ready’ (via SkySports).
And the Hornets boss has since confirmed that he expects both Doucoure and Craig Cathcart, who also missed Watford’s clash with Burnley with a knee problem, to be fit to take on both Newcastle and Tottenham.
As per the reliable Ben Dinnery:
‘Both felt [knee] pain in training and they weren’t available (to face Burnley). But I think they have minor problems and for the next game I’m sure they will be ready.’
