Manchester United’s unexpected star
While many may have thought he was going to be out of his depth, Manchester United had an unexpected star man against Barcelona tonight.
The Red Devils hosted Barcelona on Wednesday evening with the away side expected to dominate proceedings.
That was very much the case in the first half as the Catalan giants ran United ragged.
Lionel Messi provided a sublime cross to the back post for Luis Suarez, whose header hit Luke Shaw and deflected into the back of the net.
The most entertaining part of the first half for Manchester United fans was Chris Smalling leaving one on Lionel Messi.
The centre-back left Messi in a heap after his shoulder collided with Leo’s nose.
Though Manchester United had a much better second half, they were unable to get the all-important equaliser.
However, there was one bright spark and he sat in the middle of the park all afternoon.
A night to remember for Scott McTominay
That bright spark was 22-year-old Scott McTominay.
The midfielder has been used sparingly during the current campaign but injury problems in recent weeks have seen him given a chance.
His biggest chance of all to impress came at Old Trafford in the game against Barcelona.
While many expected the player to be the weak point of the side, McTominay actually put in a brilliant performance.
Especially when you consider the opposition he faced in that midfield, the youngster did not look phased in the slightest.
Not only was he great out of possession, he impressed going forward too.
Safe to say, it was a performance deserving of praise and social media gave him that in abundance.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Gerrard perform any where near as good as McTominay has tonight
